Hanging filters on rimless tank wall?
Hi there,
does anyone have this experience already - how safe is it to hang filters over the rimless tank wall? I have Mr. Aqua 25 G cube (18x18x18), glass thickness about 3/16". I see about 1/32" bow, but I believe it is normal for this size.
Ultimately I am going to add a sump and house all equipment there, mostly for esthetical reasons, but I wonder if I can use over-the wall filter for a while...
Thank you,

i dont see why not but i have no experiences with it XD. if you are worried about cracks you can cut a piece of vinyl tubing (1/4" should work) to the length of the width of the filter.... then cut a slit in the tube long wise and place over glass... than add the filter over that...

No, I got the idea. This would be useful if you need to hang something made of some hard material, like steel, glass etc. But most modern filters are made of relatively soft plastic, so it should not be a problem. I'm more concerned about strain caused by the weight of the filter. I'm just not sure how much a bare sheet of 5 mm glass can support.

oh i see what you mean... im sorry i didnt understand. 5mm seems thin for a 25.... might be thinking in the wrong scale tho... if you hang it on the back i would hang it at a side more support there

Considering the weight of the water inside the cube pushing out, I cannot see the weight of the water in the filter pushing down being an issue but contacting the manufacturer seems the most direct route to an informed answer to me.
I have six words for you.

Had my aquaclear 50 hanging off a 45 gallon rimless tank with absolutely no problems for a few years (changed to a canister filter since then).
