In a cichlid tank, mirrors may stress out the inhabitants. They are mostly extremely territorial.

But then again I've never tried it so maybe I'm just full of hot air.

If you do try it, please post the outcome.

There is a thread on this I started under tank setup (Search "mirror") which had some helpful things in it from others.

I turned mine around, but today I made a new background and made a little 1/2 inch snake shaped cut in it and let a little slice of the mirror show through to see what would happen, after about two hours now of watching, my betta is intermittently flaring at himself. The tetras checked it out and then lost interest.

I think a whole mirror is too much, but I'll keep experimenting with covering most of it and seeing what happens with the little bits showing!

Flowerhorn breeders do it all the time, they put mirrors into the tank so the fish will get a huge lump on its head (Kok) I would not recommend keeping it there 24/7 due to the fact the fish will stress out. With a Cichlid they are very territorial and if they can not get the other fish away from there space they become aggravated. Also when there are intruders they may make themselves sick or stop eating until they deem it safe which usually means the other fish is gone.
