My 10g currently has three sparkling gourami ... and a whole lot of Christmas moss. I'd had a school of pygmy cories in there too, but recently moved the cories to the 20g.

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.

I have a ten gallon with a dwarf gourami, by now a lot of red cherry shrimp, and two plaities, and plenty of plants, and a piece of driftwood too. It seems to work out pretty well, everyone seems happy and peaceful.

Back when I had a 10 gal, I had 3 black skirt tetras, a few platys and a few shrimp.

If I had to set another up today, I'd have a good spattering of low-maintenance plants like anubias or java fern, some driftwood, and then load the tank with shrimp and maybe a flame red dwarf gourami. I'd use brown pool filter sand, like in my 55 gal, instead of gravel.

It'd be easy to maintain, and would look pretty cool. If the hood came with incandescent bulbs, you can substitute with Marineland's compact fluorescents. They don't get hot, and they put out way more light; in the whiter 6700k range, if memory serves.
