  1. Default Keeping a vase/bowl upside down in my goldfish aquarium

I have a 30 gallon aquarium with a young oranda and ryukin - I was trying to decorate it very simple and kind of zen-like. I have had a glass vase in the aquarium with a plastic flower for a few weeks and it looked really nice - but today, my goldies decided they like hanging out inside the vase - the problem is once they get in, they can't get out - So I was wondering if I could keep the vase in the tank upside down - would that be bad as far as water quality/circulation goes? Could it breed a freak bacteria? I change the water and vacuum the bottom once a week - THANKS!!!

I think I'd try gluing some screen or mesh or maybe a plant across the mouth so they can't get in, or some other decorative thing, rather than turning it upside down.

I would also try something other than turning it upside down. I don't know that anything would happen to it since it would never be exposed to air but having water the is not circulating throughout the tank would worry me.

Turning it upside down would decrease the volume of water in the tank by the volume of the vase. That doesn't make sense, especially since the vase is purely aesthetic.

If fish are getting stuck in a decoration, simply remove it. It's not worth killing a fish to have a decoration and a tank is decorated for them, not us, unfortunately.

The oranda will get much too large for a 30 gallon.

If you want to keep the vase, fill it with rocks and anchor the plants in that.
