  1. Default New 10g-what to plant?

I am in the process of cycling my new 10g and I want to make it a planted tank. I have never taken the effort of putting plants into a tank so I don't know where to start. I have been trying to do a lot of reading on here but I seem to get very lost every time I try.

I want something easy to take care of but not something that is going to choke out my tank. I am looking to just have the plants be accents to the tank not take away from the fish that I put in there yet at the same time give my fish I put in there what they need to feel comfortable and safe.

What plants do you all suggest?

Java Moss and Java Fern are very hardy plants along with Hornwort and Anacharis. Crypts are not that difficult, plus they dont grow too fast.

I have looked at hornwort and I am not a real fan of the way it looks. I did see some Japanees grass that I thought looked pretty cool, but i can't remember where I saw it at.

I recently set up a 10g planted myself. I was planning on a lightly planted tank, but it didn't turn out that way lol. I have some type of anubias (afzelii I think?), crypts, water wisteria, and dwarf hairgrass. The wisteria grows the fastest, followed by the crypts, then hairgrass, then anubias. My fish seem to really enjoy the plants. My danios are always zooming in and out of the crypt forest I have growing.

I couldn't justifiy the cost of plant substrate and plants lights on a $15 tank so my tank sat empty 3 years. Which was fine because I couldn't find fish suitable for a 10 gallon or plants, either.

Finally 3 weeks ago I threw some slate in the bottom, some driftwood with java fern and moss attached, some cherry shrimp and neons and called it done. Not purdy but not empty.

If you want any type of grasses, you need to make sure you have something better than stock lights that come with the tank.
