Thread: Co2 Bubbles

  1. Default Co2 Bubbles

When the Co2 bubbles come out of my hose going into the aquarium and reach the surface they pop. Does this mean they were dissolved into the water or are they popping and being wasted?

if they reach the surface, and pop they are releasing the C02 into the room and not into the tank.

how are you trying to disolve them into solution.

bell jar, reactor, air stone, run into filter?
    46g planted tank:
Pearl Gouramis, New Guinea Red Rainbowfish, Siamese algae eaters, Yoyo Loaches, Zebrafish, oto cats, L114 (aka Leopard cactus pleco)

    30g planted tank:
Celestial Pearl Danios, Red Cherry Shrimp

    20g long planted tank:
    N strain Endlers Live bearers

    5 gallon:
Half moon betta (blue body, Yellow fins)

I just have my tube from my reactor going straight into the tank and the bubbles go from the hose to the surface and pop.

I am also having some other troubles if you can help. Today I hooked up my Co2 after refilling it. I was getting about 1 bubble every 2 seconds then I get home today and the hose is filled with water and I am getting no Co2.
    What is the problem?

After you make the solution, you need to let it cool to room temp first for about 12 hours before capping it and putting the tubing in the tank. Otherwise, the cooling solution (and gas) will suck in tank water and may possibly cause some backwash issues. You can use a check valve to bypass this problem though, but I've never needed one with the way I describe above. Also, you need an airstone or glass diffuser like the one I linked you to make smaller bubbles that dissolve better. The big bubbles from the end of the tubing won't do anything as they rise too fast.
    Foshizzle.

The solution was sitting for like 3 days because I had to re-silicone my cap with the brass barb.
What glass diffuser are you talking about because I don't remember a link. and I used to have an airstone but took it off.

I guess your setup requires a check valve then, meh.

You dont have to have a check valve but its a good idea to install one and considering they are below $1 a piece its well worth it. The last thing you want is to have yeast & sugar solution go into your tank for some dumb reason. I know that happened to some people and that clean up is not fun at all.
