Reacclimating
A few weeks ago I got a delivery of some nice Koi Angels.I acclimated them into my 55 gallon tank. All went well. Now I have decided to put them in my 90 gallon tank.(I am going to relocate 3 four inch Oscars that have been in there). There are 8 Koi Angels.Question is,is it too soon to move them again? Are Koi Angels any more delicate than other Angels?PH in the tank they are in is 7.0 and the new tank is 7.4.I acclimated them by putting them in a bucket, then every 20 minutes I added a cup of new tank water into bucket.I did this until the PH was the same(or close)

If you are worried about the angels being sensitive, try drip acclimation. Take a piece of airline tubing, put one end in the tank you are gpoing to put your fish in, start a siphon, tie a knot in the tubing( you can control the speed of the drip by the size of the knot), & put the tubing above the water line in the bucket. This assures a slow acclimation process. I have been using this method for years & have not lost a fish yet.

There is no reason to acclimate fish moving them from one of your tanks to another of your tanks. Just make sure the temp is the same.

Even though the PH may not be the same(close but not the same)? Also there is no differance in Angels as far as one strain being more delicate than another?

The point is that they are shocked by very different pH. Yours is not that different from tank to tank. I would worry about the temps and nothing else.
I don't even acclimate fish anymore I buy in the same town I live in. They go into my quarantine tank the minute I buy them and then it's lights off until the next day and no feeding. My fish get moved about all the time. No problems ever.Last edited by Lady Hobbs; 10-20-2011 at 11:09 PM.

Ok,thanks for the advice.I appreciate it.One more thing,if I get a pair,is a 20 gallon high tank large enough for them to breed in?

Probably large enough to breed. You could also just put the eggs in the 20. But once fry began to grow, a 20 won't last for long. Easy enough to just move the eggs but trying to keep 8 angels in a tank is going to be a real trick.

I have read some of your past posts.I understand what you were saying about keeping a group of Angels together. What you are saying is that even with 8 Angels in my 90 gallon there will be trouble. When some pair up it's time to seperate.I think I get it.At this time they are almost the size of a half dollar. How much longer do I have before I can expect them to pair up?

I can't picture more than 2-pairs in a 48" tank but it's too early to worry about it now until you know what sexes you have. Mine paired up about 3 months after I got them and I figured they were about 3 months when I bought them. Could have been 4. Who knows? You might just end up with 4 pair out of the 8 fish. (I ended up with 4 pairs out of 9.) You might want to keep that 55 handy?

Ok.Thanks.I guess I got at least a few months before I have to worry about them pairing up.And yes I will keep the 55 handy(with a divider if needed),and my 20 gallon.
