Only have a Betta while cycling my first 20 gallon, but after not being able to have cats or dogs to name (apartment) I had to at least name him. I went with the name Alpha.

When I get around to stocking my other tank I'll be coming up with some random names for the schools of fish, rather than naming each individually. If I get a pair of medium size fish those will get named individually, but anything more than a pair is getting labeled "The Darkness" or "The Swarm" or something similar

    Short answer: yes. Long answer:
    Female bettas: Redfin, Stormcloud, Icicle
    Male guppies: Comet, Candy, Sunset
    Hatchetfish: Choppy
    Raspora: Blackspot
    Blue danio: Streak
    Leopard daino: Cheetah
    Zebra danio: Old Stripe
    Celestial pearl danio: Little Dipper
    Neon tetra: Texie
2 Glowlight tetras: Flash & Dash
    Sparkling gourami: Jewel
    Salt-and-pepper cories: Salt & Pepper
    Julii cory: Maze
    Bamboo shrimp: Fans
    Amano shrimp: Spot
    Hillstream loach: Stingray
I hate hearing people say "it's only a $3/$5/$1 fish/shrimp, so it's ok if it dies, I can just get another." It's still an animal! All animals should be treated like they're worth $10,000.
29 sw: Damsel, shrimpgoby, pistol shrimp, waspfish
65 fw: Rummies, glowlight tetras, pencilfish, darters, ottos, f betta, goby, dwarf gourami, ninjas
29 fw: Chili rasboras, pygmy cories, P. Gertrudae

I usually go by the rule that as long as they live two weeks after I acquire them, they have passes the mark and get accepted into the gang, or if a betta are given a name.

Used to name them, but found naming seemed to put a VooDoo curse on the lifespan of my fish... Soon as I named them, they'd start getting sick and then die. Stopped naming... have had better luck.
