well, the light is here, and I went and got some plants for the tank, too.
tested the water, and there was ammonia in the tank - from the dirt, I suppose. I put the seeded sponge in the filter, and the ammonia is slowly coming down (from 4ppm down to 1ppm). I guess I will keep testing until it's all gone, before I go out looking for a fish!

Looks good. You need to toss a background of some sort onto that tank! I think I'm going to try a dirt tank again.

    Excess nutrients and then some!!

Ok, so when I planted it I tested the ammonia, and it was pretty high (about 4ppm), and since I didn't want the ammonia to shock the bb on the pre-cycled filter too much, I did a 50% water change to get it down to 2ppm. It was back up to 4 the next day!!

Anyway, it's been just over a week since that happened, ammonia is finally at 0, trites are going down slowly but surely, trates are flactuating (between 10 ppm and 20 ppm, going up then down??), and the plants are taking off. I've been adding flourish excell every day to try and ward off any algae outbreaks...

Can't wait for it to finish cycling so I can get a fishie!!!

This was about 3 days ago.

This is right now. I have added some pygmy chain swords at the front on the right. The plants on the left really seem to be taking off..

    Please excuse the crappy pictures!

STILL getting some nitrite reading (although it's down to barely registering, so almost there). Also, I think it might need a trim soon...

Welcome to a dirt tank LOL. Yours looks great! Be glad you didn't add a co2 generator to yours like I did, the plants grow fast enough as to actually be annoying.

Well all traces of nitrites are gone, so...
    Introducing Mr.Fishyface!!

I only managed to snap one photo before he decided that the focusing noise the camera made was not to his liking and hid in the bush...
