Hello peeps,
I have been MIA for a very long time but am back in action. Life has threw some curve balls at me in the last year so it will be limited participation but back none the less. My tank is coming along very well. I tryed to update this journal lastnight but for some reason couldn't get anything to work. :) still trying to figure out the new interface. I will update tonight if it works.

I have decided to go with a Malawi tank. It is an all male Peacock/Hap tank. I purchased glass top, strip light, ehiem jager 300W heater and fluval fx5 filter. I got the filter onsale at a local LFS and it ended up being $100 cheaper then any other shop around here. I added an extra smaller heater in hopes of stabilizing the temp.
I added egg crate to the bottom of the tank before adding some play sand for a substrate. I hard scaped the tank with rocks I had collected awhile back. I opted out of using the driftwood in order to maintain proper and stable PH.
I am lucky that where I live the water straight out of the tap is very hard with a constant PH of 8.0. It's nice not to have to mess with the water chemistry in any way. It just works perfectly for african cichlids.

I framed it out with some white metal and will complete it by adding some white MDF casing. I am picking up a load tomorrow to finnish the windows and doors on the basement reno.

I plan on adding a HOB filter, my fluval C3 for now. I also plan on getting some bigger rock so that I can eventually create some more height in the tank.

I currently have stocked the following:
3 - Sunshine Peacock
4 - Midnight Peacock
2 - Ruby Red Peacock
2 - Strawberry Peacock
3 - Deep Water Hap
1 - Electric Blue Hap
2 - Hap Borleyi
1 - Venustis
All are juveniles or young adults except 2 Sunshine Peacocks and 1 Strawberry.

The scratches on the tank are allot more noticable then I expected but none the less I am still really happy with the results so far. I have been planning and thinking about this tank for so long it's hard to believe it's finally in the wall!!

And that was a tank journal update in fast forward...

Glad to see you have finished this tank you got a while back

I've always wanted to do a in-wall build like that, but never had a space in any of the homes that we lived in were it would have make sense to do it. I really like how your project turned out.

I'm looking forward to more pics and up-dates
