If you want some really good dry rock to add, check this stuff out (http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/...-eco-rock.html) it blows the lbs/gal guide out the window. It is so porous and light that you probably don't have room for 15-20lbs of it in a 10gal.

Well I got the sand. this is the first time i have ever used a sand substrate and lets just say that my experience is a little cloudy.

I thought i was doing it right. I cleaned the sand alot. the water never came clear but i thought that was just because i was moving the sand around and some sand was suspended in the water. then i tryed to take the wet sand and funnel it in a tube so that it would go right to the bottom and that also was a disaster. the sand was like clay and wouldnt slide down. o well i guess i have to wait for it to settle. just dont know how long i should wait to turn the filter on.

If you have some kind of filter floss in your HOB temporarily, it will help clear that up. Also, if the particles are too fine and are going right through, you can use Seachem Clarity. I've used it on SW tanks in the past when I had this same issue, and it worked wonderfully. The best part it, Clarity has no negative impact on the system. All it will do is cause the particles to clump together to form larger particles that your filter can effectively remove.
