Marimo Moss Ball Split
0
Does any one know how to care for a split marimo ball ?
My Ball has opened up
Should I tie it in a ball with some thread ?
Part of it (strands) keeps loosening up and floats around till it eventually catches the filter

Are you sure its a marimo ball and not a wadded up clump of java moss? There are some less then reputable places that try this trickery...

Yes it is a Marimo Moss Ball and since I've bought Java Moss and Willow moss before, I could tell the difference. The store is a also a reputed one. I bought it when it was nice and round and closed. Now its split. So I wanted to know if there's a way of joining it back. I've currently clumped a smaller part of it with some thread to see if it can recover.

Interesting, I've never had any of mine do that. I wish I had something to tell you but let us know if it works out.

I read recently they aren't actually a Moss at all... they are actually any algae!
Anyway... I don't have anything more useful to add I just thought that was interesting.

I have had my marimo ball for over a year now. One of my goldfish is bad and kept messing with the ball. Soon the marimo had a small hole and the hole never went away. Today I just finally split the ball. I watched a youtube video>
they tied string around the ball. One of the balls I'm trying with the string.
