36 gallon Tank Stand
0
Hey guys! So I just got a 36 gallon bow front tank and I have no clue what to get for a stand. I was going to use my bureau but I'm worried that it will not hold the weight. I really do not want to spend $100+ on a stand, but even if I was to do that I can't find one that I feel is good enough. They have one at Petco, but I'm worried that the wood it is made out of is not going to be strong enough.

What are your suggestions? I could try the bureau but I don't know. And I was thinking of building my own but I have no idea how, have never built anything, and am worried that I will not make it level and even throughout it and then my tank break down the road.
I have really been stressing out over what to do here because I am dying to start my aquarium, but I cant fill it with water or anything until I get the stand. I am probably way over thinking this, but I'm new and just want everything to go smoothly.
Thanks!

I would not use the bureau, they are not meant to have that type of weight on it
You best bet would be to buy a stand that is designed to hold your tank, our build your own.
You can find a lot of plans for tank stands on the interent if want to build one yourself
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

if its a stand made for tanks then it should hold the weight, also if you get a bureau make sure its solid wood.
if your afraid it wont hold the weight then 12 pounds / gal would be an over estimate so if you got 2 full grown adults to sit on it, if it doesn't creak at all it should be good especially if its rated for the tank size

If you're not comfortable cutting the wood by yourself (presuming you are making the stand yourself) you can get a store like Home Depot or Rona to do it for you for a small fee.

I use a different stand from Petco (or Petsmart?) and it works fine for my 36 gallon bowfront (must be the same tank as yours)

It was supported by that stand for about 2 years now.
P.S. Must be Petsmart, since here it is
