Default Acclimating a Black Molly to full saltwater

    0 Not allowed!
We've had a black molly in a 10 gallon qt tank for the last 3 months, holding a cycle for a fish we thought we were getting but can't seem to find one so we're not getting it. Now we've decided to move the Molly to our reef and take down the qt tank. It has been in 1.005 specific gravity water since the 2nd week we got it.

How long should we take to acclimate it to full reef, a SG of 1.025. I just changed out a gallon of the water in the tank with a gallon of saltwater this afternoon. Should I do a gallon a day until its up to 1.025, or can I do it quicker. Thank you for any input

I did mine a LOT quicker.
I basically drip-acclimitised it as if it was a new fish, but I took a lot more time at it. So it was in the tank in a day.

It didn't survive long tho - it went "missing" in a little over a week. Not sure if it was due to bad acclimatisation or if it became someones lunch...

I would do it as slow as possible like over a week or two and just add more salt ever once and awhile until it is at the right sp, not a salt water guy though.

Cool, we will do it over the next week or so, I saved 5 gallons saltwater from our last water change on our reef and will have more the next water change this weekend, so I'll switch out a gallon or so a day. Thank you for the input.

They can be full salt and do well in it. They are great algae eaters. A lot of people locally also breed them in full salt for parasite free live food in predator saltwater tanks.

I kept mollies in full salt.I bought them from fw,added them to brackwater wi8th basically a 2 hr drip acclim when I had the bw tank. I turned the bw into full salt in one week with them in it. After about a month in full salt I put them back in fw after a few hr drip acclim. Mollies are super fish. btw I still have them my least fav fish ever.

If a molly gets washed out to sea by a heavy rainstorm how long does it get acclimated? The only reason they aren't SW fish is because they're too easy for predators to find/catch.

hmm well you learn new things every day.

There are many sizes of fish in the sea- so I can see where mollies would have their place.

Unfortunately for them, it's low on the food chain.
