Thread: New additions

  1. #1

    Default New additions

Up until last night, I was having trouble deciding between a Derasa Clam and a Squamosa Clam. Our SW LFS stocks both they are both about the same color except the derasa is darker than the squamosa.

Based on everything that I researched, they both seemed to have very similar requirements and comparable care level. The tank has been stabilized for about 4 months now and the lighting is more than enough to meet their needs.

When I went to our SW LFS last night to pick out the one I liked best I decided not to choose one. Instead I got both. I have enough room in the tank for both to reach their maximum sizes of around 12”. I’ll just have to move a few pcs of rock and some corals out of their way as they grow. My wife and I really liked both clams so I figured why not. Both clams are just over 4” so they should be highly dependent on lighting and less on water based food sources.

The derasa clam is a really nice purple color. He adapted really well to his new home and was nearly fully opened within a few hours

The squamosa clam is a very nice teal blue. He is still very stressed from the move, not adapting nearly as well as the derasa clam did. He was slowly starting to open up more last night just before lights out so I’m hoping by tomorrow he will be nearly fully opened.

And of course, a full tank shot.

If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

AWESOME Cliff. Saltwater is the colour aquarium for sure. I miss mine but I also still remember all the work that went into it every day. Feeding my seahorses was a bit of a pain but well worth it.

The closest I had to a clam was a fire scallop which I enjoyed.

You have a great set-up there!

Keep the pictures coming Cliff. I cant get enough.
Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..

Please remember; every keystroke has a consequence.

lol thats classic, Cliff...couldn't decide between them so you got them both.
You have the room and they are both nice so there really was no need to make the tough choice.

Jealous tho! My tank doesn't have room for one of these beauties. It will be interesting how fast they grow, compared to each other.

You should run a competition...see which one will reach 6" first...wonder how long that would take...

Nice buy and as always tank is looking good!
