Bigger Tank...Now the filter tubes are too Short!
Hey everyone
I upgraded to a 65g tank yesterday that is about 4-6in taller than my old tank -my eheim filters were already on top of bricks because the tubes were too short - but now the filters are on bricks (about a foot high) & the intake/pre-filters r balancing on tank decorations.
The options i am aware of are:
Buy brand new tubing - which will cost upwards of $40 (for the eheim tubing)
or
Buy extra tubing & connectors to add to what I have - this option sounds cheaper - but im not sure if i'll get messed up with the cost of the connectors (last time i bought one it was $11 but it was an L cuve - i dont need that) - if thats the case i'll need 8 plus a few feet of tubes & that will end up more than $40...
Anyone do anything different or know of a cheaper alternative that will work?
(& I can't add more bricks for hight its already as high as i can go lol)
thanks!! LOLHow To Do Fish Surgery

i dont see why you HAVE to use the Ehiem tubes. Any tubing will work, so long as it fits the inlet/outlet nozzles on the canister. Local hardware stores sell many vinyl tubes of different sizes

Go with vinyl tubing from home depot or another store. For my rena xp's I used tubing from there. The closest size there was very slightly smaller than I needed, but I was able to use it. I heated up a pot of water, put the end of the tubing in there for a few seconds, this warms up the tubing and makes it more malleable soft and I was able to get it over the intake and outtakes. Made for a real nice tight fit which was good.

Just make sure any new tubing you get is aquarium-safe. Not all of it is. You might try to find a product sheet on the filter you have to find out what their tubing is made of. Don't know about vinyls, but not all plastics are safe for fish tanks, and it could be that some vinyls aren't, either.
