    Default Gang valve not working

    0 Not allowed!
So I do most shopping at petsmart do to high prices at the lfs. So I went to get a gang valve and all they had was top fin, they did have metal and platsic ones tho. I got the plastic 4 port since it was half the price. I have a top fin airpump rated for 40 gallons, it has 2 ports and I need 4 hens the gang valve. I ran a both into the gangvalve via a T connector, the I hooked up all the tanks 4 of them. But there was not enough pressure to go thro airstones, so I tried no airstones but it still didn't work. Then I hooked them all up with a series of T connector and the all work fine, with airstones.
So em I doing something wrong and would the metal one actually work.

I have terrible luck with Gang Valve. If T's are working, don't mess with success. My guess is that some valve was either not open enough, or too open, causing a leak.

I would still fool with the Gang valve a bit to see if you can make it run one item & then work from there. Sometimes it's operator error but a bit of fooling with it can sort it out. :-P

It's also a possibly that your pump is not strong enough to do what your asking, Just something to consider.

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

I don't bother with gang valves, I just use tees and individual inline air valves where needed. I usually split one outlet between 2 airlines with a valve on one of the two lines to balance the airflow between tanks. I never use airstones, they reduce air volume and the back pressure wears the diaphragms worse when the stones become clogged.

In addition to replacing the gang valve, you could try to raise the level of the air pump as well.

I fooled with it for about a half hour and I couldn't even get one to work but I have a friend that said he has the metal one and it works better. But I returned it today anyway but toddnbecka, I always was under the inpression that an airdrome was the best way to run sponge filters. Is that false?(I always thought it would have less flow is what I mean)

I use Hydrosponge filters in all my tanks, never use airstones on any of them. The air draws the water through the sponge, doesn't matter whether the bubbles are big or small. You'll actually have more air pressure w/out an airstone to restrict the flow.

I have been searching for the brass gang valves and for the life of me cannot find one here in the ottawa area. I haven't had much luck on line either. The plastic ones are garbage as far as i am concerned.

I used to use gangvalves when I had my tanks in the '80s, and I always had trouble with them. Didn't like gangvalves then, and don't like them now. And I don't use them. Don't need to, really, since my revertible pump has only two ports and all I need to do is hook up a separate airline to each port, with a check valve in each airline, and it works fine. Splitters and gangs just seem to complicate what should otherwise be simple functions.

Right now, I'm only using one port on my revertible pump to run an airstone in my 20-gallon, and the rest of my aeration in both of my tanks comes from the powerful filters I'm using.

Gangvalves are, in my opinion and experience, a waste of time and money.
