New family member!
Our last cat passed away in October this year at 19 and I swore I would never have another pet as I was heartbroken. This past weekend something told me to stop at our local spca and I found this beautiful cat who was one of many (56) that came from an abusive breeder (barely any human contact, no fresh food or water, overflowing litter boxes and kept in a tiny cage). It took the spca workers 3 months of socializing before she and the others could become adoptable.
She is supposedly a Manx cat but they couldn't guarantee these horrible people didn't just chop her tail off..Sammie (name will probably change at a later time) is 4 years old and is just the sweetest cat ever who LOVES belly rubs and purrs like a freight train. She has only been in our house for a few hours but already I know she will be my forever companion and I will be her forever human.

THANK YOU for taking in a rescue...it shows true heart, and compassion, and caring, that seems to be lacking in the world nowadays
After almost 20 years with your beloved pet, I can see how the heartbreak could make you never want to go through it again...but everything happens for a reason
And "Sammie" is so glad it did this past WE
She's such a pretty girl, and deserves being spoiled rotten, if you ask me....

Congrats on the new family member
She looks adorableIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Thanks so much guys! She came from such horrible conditions and is so timid I never thought she would even come out of the carrier tonight let alone walk around the room (full sized bathroom for a while), the people at our spca really worked hard with these cats and wouldn't let them go to homes they didn't think were capable of carrying on the work & patience they require so I'm honored to have that chance. Just like our fishkeeping, I want her to not just survive but thrive.
I'm sitting on the bathroom floor (not an easy task at my age) reading the forum posts out loud so she gets used to my voice :)

Congrats! I suspect 'Sammie' is going to be a very spoiled rescue kitty. Heck, I love her and she's not even mine...
And my two rescues would probably be jealous...

That's wonderful news Judi.. I'm so happy for both of you! It is so hard to lose a pet but they are all so special in their own ways! One certainly can never replace another but I could not imagine my house without a pet or two.. they make it a home in their own unique way (usually by leaving every surface dusted with a bit of fur)!DM's 20g high - journal

Thanks so much, yes she is going to be quite spoiled.
I agree, our house was just not the same without a furry friend
