Absolutely gutted :( :( :(
Got home and went to feed the tank..... No sign of the jaw fish?!?!?
Looked everywhere, he always comes out for food.
He's on the floor behind the tank dry as a bone. Worst of it is the gap he got out is only 1x1 inch!!!!
I am really upset, never lost a fish that I was attached to before. I could cry!!!Used to try and keep track of my fish here.....
Ran out of room and time!!!
Instead I'll tell you the best piece of fishkeeping equipment ever....... Algae Scrubber :)

That sucks man. Believe me when I say I know where you are coming from. I almost lost my jawfish twice now and to be honest I would rather have him then all the rest.

talking to the wife and she thinks he must have been startled by the tang.
He would always bolt back to his hole if the tang came near but if the tang was between him and the hole he may well have just gone upwards instead :(Used to try and keep track of my fish here.....

That's a bummer! I've learned the hard way we aquarists can't afford to leave even tiny holes uncovered. The ones we think are too small for our fish to fit through are the very ones they'll jump out of.
You gave him a good life, though. That's always comforting to know ...
