5G Hex for Betta?
I am looking to upgrade my betta's tank from a 2.5 to a 5 gallon tank. I was thinking about something like this:
http://www.petco.com/product/12788/M...arium-Kit.aspx
Has anybody purchased this tank or a similar one?
I am concerned about the filtration, whether it will be good enough, if the output will be too strong, and if it would be difficult to customize if need be.
And I understand it doesn't have a filter so I would have to buy one, of course.
Any thoughts or suggestions?Last edited by SLeen; 07-11-2011 at 03:20 AM.

That looks pretty cool. I would think you could get a small filter or something to help. Not sure though.

The filtration would definitely be adequite for a betta. I'd be more concerned about the flow of water, but chances are your betta would be just fine. If it's too strong, most filters can be made a plastic water diffuser to slow the current out of a plastic bottle or something similar.
My betta is in a 3g marineland tank, but the filter was broken when I got it, so I had to cut (read snapped and sawed) a section off the back to hang an Azoo Palm filter, and that works great.10g Community planted [java fern, anubias nana, crypts, vals]; male HMP betta [Carcharias], lophiobagrus catfish, blood-fin tetras, ember tetras

A friend of mine has hers in a tank similar to that. It appears to be doing fine. The water flow doesn't seem to worry him and she's given him lots of hides as well.

thanks for the replies. I'm strongly considering getting this one a little further down the line. My betta doesnt seem unhappy where he is now. In fact, Im looking at him right now and hes making a bubble nest. So I am in no kind of hurry. Just checking out my options.
I thought this tank was attractive and had more room for him and maybe for more plants than I have now. But I am open to suggestions if anyone has any.

I actually have this particular tank. I call it THING.
Here's the journal which describes some of my personal journeys with THING.
It can be a nice tank for simple setups ... and fairly to really nice for a betta. A little restrictive on decorating and 'scaping in my opinion. But still not a tank setup I'd call horrible.
I DO loathe the built in filter it has in it, and is why I modified mine to accept an hob.

I was actually just looking at your journal. It has made me think that perhaps my set up right now isnt too bad. haha.

Yeah ... if you aren't stretched for space, if you ever want to upgrade your betta's home, I'd opt for a standard sized (rectangle) 5g tank (or larger).
Lots more options
