How do I convince my wife....
....to let my buy a 125 gallon tank I found on Craigslist for $160.00 with stand, filter, heater, gravel. Tank holds water.
Ugh! She's already said she doesn't want another tank, but this seems like a deal too good to pass up!!!

barter with her. What does SHE really want for the house? Some new furniture, painting a room, something like that. Offer a trade.
That is a good deal, too.
300 gallon mega tank: build in progress
75 gallon community tank: tetras, danios, corys, platies, otos, pearl gouramis, bristlenose pleco, assassin snails, red cherry shrimp, bamboo shrimp
70 gallon growout tank: clown loaches, sailfin pleco
60 gallon goldfish tank: fancy goldfish
29 gallon frog tank / 10 gallon tadpole tank: 1 leopard frog, 1 tadpole
10 gallon and 5.5 gallon betta tanks: 1 male betta each, sometimes snails

yea...problem is, I have nowhere to put this tank if I do get it. I'd have to put it in the place of my current 75 gal and move everything over and then store my 75 gal in the garage....ugh

as a wife, I say, just get it and ask for permission later. LOL, but that might not be the best idea.
when I try to convince my husband to let me get more stuff for the house, I throw away something of about the same size. So, when I wanted a new trunk for my knitting supplies, I threw away about the same size amount of clothes and books.
This way, I'm not adding any more stuff, just replacing it.
Also, if what you throw away is something she considers an eyesore, you might get bonus points. LOL20 Gal - 1 Dwarf Flame Gourami, 5 CoryCats (3 Green Laser, and 2 Bandit), 6 Assassin Snails.

That can be pretty tough.
In the past I had got my wife involved by helping pick out the stocking list, feeding the tank, and all the fun stuff like that. Over time she really developed a interest in the hobby almost equal to mine. She was the one that talked me into trying a reef tank.
IMO, you have to consider if this purchase could negatively affect her opinion / perception of the hobby. Sometimes it might be best to pass up a great deal today that might cause a disagreement between you and your wife, and just wait for another great deal later on that you both can share in the excitement. They will always be great deals to be found.
Just my $0.02 is allIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

A few weeks ago our last rat died.I wasnt happy that an animal passed on but I was relieved to not have anymore cage animals stinking the house up.I even put my foot down and said "there will be no more cage animals in this house" a week later I came home from work and there was a guinee pig where the rat was.I said what the heck [well,,,the last 2 letters were the sdame anyway] she said its just for awhile till his hair grows back. That was a month ago,its hair grew back and its still in the house. Get the tank, get it as revenge against wives for me.Ask forgiveness but never permission, its what they do

Bemgelado: the stuff you threw away? It wasnt his was it?Last edited by smaug; 06-27-2011 at 09:42 PM.

Cliff I totally agree with you man. $ is a bit tight right now to begin with, and I get very obsessive on my hobbys so I think she's rather annoyed with all my recent purchases anyways for the current 75 gal tank. Probably better to let this one slide and wait for the next one perhaps when I move to a bigger home. Man, tough to let this go at that price. Tank looks real nice too.

Granger710, I know it's tough. A few years back I past up what I thought was the best deal that I will ever find for a 100 gallon custom tank and stand. A few months ago I found a deal (just as sweet) on a 120 gallon, which, my wife talked me into.
Now I'm the one saying, "no hun, we can add anymore fish or we will be overstocked", and "we have no room for a 180 gallon tank"If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.
