So Against my Mom's Wishes....
I went to petco's 1/1 tank sale and picked up a 10 gal! I have a bunch kicking around, but at this point, who knows what was in there, what condition/water holding properties etc... anyway the guppies are thrilled, and is so spacious looking compared to the 5 gal!
I hope to have a few more aquatic plants given to me for my birthday, so I will wait and see what comes. Also maybe a new heater, as my college tends to be cold in the winter.
Anyway, I picked up the 2nd to last 10 gal in the store, so good that I went sooner than later!2.5 Gal- Frank, Male Betta, HM- Low Tech Planted Tank

Thank you! Now I just have to convince her that adding more plants is not bad for a tank!

When you get a heater, try and get a good one - not just the cheapest; after a good filter, heaters are the most important piece of equipment you can buy.
Plants are great and helpful BUT don't use lights that run over ten hours (and even that may be too long.)
Knowledge is fun(damental)
A 75 gal with eight Discus, fake plants, and a lot of wood also with sand substrate. Clean up crew is fifteen Sterba's Corys. Filters: canister w/UV, in-tank algae scrubber that removes phosphates and nitrates! Also, a highly dangerous commercial nitrate removal unit from hell

Thanks! I am still in the process of researching heaters, so when I have an idea of what I am looking at, I will post up on here for advice.

+1 with Cermet - what I've learned here is to find a heater that is adequate enough for the size of the tank so it doesn't have to be on all the time to maintain the temp you want and has a longevity record so you can count on reliability. I've heard of people getting a cheap heater and then it overheats or breaks really fast - make sure you get an adjustable one - some come set to a specific temp.

Any brand suggestions? I would want something on the smaller side and I think it was andreap- that does not need to be on all the time.

Grats on the new tank!! For heaters, Ehiem is a top brand that should be trouble free and fully submersible, so you can hide it on the bottom verticaly, those germans don't mess around!. Do not buy a Stealth or Stealth Pro as all have been recalled due to failure that can cause them to explode, so violently, tanks have been broken.
Good luck
