  1. Unhappy Dwarf gourami too slow. HELP.

My Powder Blue Dwarf is slowly getting thinner by the day due to my other fish getting to the food first. I have the Gourami, a Black Skirt tetra, a Cherry Barb, 2 Silvertip tetras, and an oto catfish. I have tried giving it food with tweezers, and it can only eat some before all the others notice and eat it. My only other empty tank is a 1 gallon. What could I do?

You have tried spreading the food all along the length of the tank to spread it around and make it more accessible for the gourami and harder for the others to get at it all?

You could try inserting a temporary partition into the tank, separating the gourami from the others during feeding time. You can get them at the fs, or use a piece of plastic or screening.

I'm surprised however, that the gourami is not more aggressive. Perhaps he has some other health issue?

What kind of food are you using? Floating or sinking? I find with my fish that most of them eat off the surface but some of them wait until pieces sink and then they zoom in to eat. As long as the more timid ones get a bite or two I'm satisfied because some eat more than others anyway.

Maybe try offering food with the lights off after the other fish have eaten? How long has this been happening?

My dwarf had the same problem. I found though, that he was thrilled to peck at shrimp pellets, and sinking wafers from the bottom of the tank. So, I toss in a couple of those extra for him (over what I'm feeding my corys) and then I toss in the food for my mid-level swimmers. They get distracted by the new food, and the gourami loves his pellets.
