Stocking 10G tank
My friend has a 10G tank that is fully cycled. He currently only has 1 Blue Gourami female in the tank. He is wanting some other fish to go along with that fish. I don't think that he wants another Gourami. I was thinking that a school of tetras would be good. Can you guys give me and him some advice on additional fish?

Please Respond!!!
Why has nobody responded. I really need to know what would go good in the tank. I think that he has an Aqueon Quiet Flow 10 on the tank if that helps.
Please somebody tell me what to get for him.Lots of tanks. Some tanks are planted. Fish include community and bettas.

I just did some research on blue gouramis because I have no experience with them. The 1st issue is that they can grow to 6" so the 10gal will eventually be too small for it. A website called peteducation.com lists suitable tankmates for that fish and the only ones that would fit in a tank that size would be mollies & swordtails (maybe 1 or 2 males) - however, animal-world.com indicates that blue gouramis can get territorial and belligerent with their tank mates, so I don't know if it's such a great idea to add other fish, especially in a tank that size. This is just based upon what I looked up.

I have a blue gourami in my 55. He don't get along with any of his tank mates. Absolutely none of them. I have noticed that he stop chasing my Mollie. Not sure why. It will be difficult to find tank mates especially since he is there first. Maybe if your friend put in some sort of school of fish the numbers my protect them.

Thanks. He is wanting to upgrade to a bigger tank but only has ~ $20 to spend on it all. He also has really gotten attached to this fish. At one time he was willing to get rid of it but now I do not think that is a possibility. He likes sharks, so was thinking of getting one of those. I told him that a school of tetras would be good, but what kind?
Thanks for your input :)Lots of tanks. Some tanks are planted. Fish include community and bettas.

There are no shark species or species that resemble sharks that are suitable for a 10g aquarium.

Maybe something small, which would live in a separate area of the tank? The first fish that comes to my mind is the Bumblebee Goby. They are really cute and live at the bottom of the tank. They tend to mind their own business as well, so the Gourami (unless it's hugely aggressive) and it could live happily together. They are quite small so the size problem wouldn't be an issue. I had a 26 gal tank for a few years which had a Dwarf Gourami, afew guppies and 2 Bumblebee Gobys and they were happy as anything :) Just give them plants that cover the ground a bit, and some places to hide!

The problem with putting any other fish in a tank that size is there really isn't any place for other fish to hide - a fish (like the gourami) that probably won't want to share space would have other fish hiding in a corner and not even being being able to eat - I don't think your friend would want that. 10gal isn't big enough for fish to have "separate territories".
