Yeah, I read that above. Line breeding isn't great for most animals. The traits you want to genetically fix often also get fixed with other undesirable traits. E.g. German Shepherd Dogs and hip dysplasia, Dairy cows and chronic lameness, Thoroughbred horses and hoof density problems.

Just thought I'd update this thread as my EBJD seems to finally be following the fate I was worried about. He's gone from voracious eating, to spitting out food. His abdomen appears to be swollen as well. He just reached 5" long and I thought maybe he was past it, but this week he seems to be displaying the classic symptoms of an EBJDs upcoming and premature death.
Next post I write here will either be "yep, he's dead" or "false alarm!"
I hope its the latter...but I don't think so...
