strange green substance in sand
green stuff has been invading my sand. why?
is it algae?

its green(duh)
it vacuums up slowly
goes away if i stir the sand.
theres cretin spots it doesn't go in to. (like underneath the power head or a decor.)

I would try googling CYANOBACTERIA to find some pics to see if that may be what is going on.
Other than that, could you provide the following info:
-the type of lighting you have (watts and K rating)
-how long you have your lights on for
-your water parameters (ammoinia, nitrite, nitrate, and PH)
-if your tank gets direct sunlight at all, and if yes for how long
-what type of routine maintenance do you complete on this tankIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

As well as checking out the pics Cliff mentioned, It would be worth a 1000 words apiece to post some shots of what you have going on.
The answers offered tend to be more accurate that way.

You need to be more clear. In the first post you said green stuff invading your sand. Now you are saying green water. Two different things with two different problems. That pic is discusting. Lordie.
