  1. Default Community Cichlids?

Hello, a recent post got me thinking. I am cycling a 29gal tank right now. I already have a Gold Gourami and an Australian Rainbow. I was wondering if there is a species of Cichlid that can be considered a compatible community fish that is ok in this tank size? I ask because I originally wanted to have a Cichlid tank but was informed you need a much larger tank along with more experience. Any info would be appreciated.

Many appistogramma species, rams, kribensis, there are several out there. Most are in the "Dwarf Cichlid" catagory. Run a google search and come up with a list of ones that strike your fancy.

Cool, thanks. So any appistogramma in the dwarf category wouldnt beat the heck outta my other fish?

I have never kept an appisto that was aggressive to anything but a female or that was in breeding. I've kept Cockatoo's, borelli's and several others without an issue to any other fish.

Wow this is great news!! I can't wait till my tanks cycled. I thought I wasnt going to be able to have Cichlids untill I convinced my wife that I need a second tank of about 90gal. Which by the way would take me 10 years to do so! LOL
    Thanks for the feedback!

Sure Just make sure you arent getting Wild appisto's because they are black water fish and like the same conditions as Discus. Home breed's are much more tollerant.
