  1. Default 8 neons and 1 rummynose

i ordered fish online and of a group of 6 rummynose tetra's i came out with only one that lived. he had no coloration and didn't want to move out of a toy that he was holed up in. i kinda figured he was gonna die.

so last nite i went to petco and picked up 8 neon tetra's. the one fish i hate most. i personally don't care for them

    anyway.

i get them in and they hang out in one area.

this afternoon i checked on them when i got up and the 8 neons have decided to start moving around the tank and playing which is great. what's even better though is that the single rummynose is schooling with them, playing, and has gotten a ton of color. his red nose/head is pronounced as is his silver/black tail.

based on that i think that i'm going to look for some more rummynose tetra's to put in there with him so that he can have his own friends that look like himself.

That should look pretty good. Are there any other fish in your tank yet?

    not yet no.

every time i make a plan it changes.

i know i'm going to get more rummynose but then i'm not sure what after that.

i would like to get a school of tiger barbs but i may find myself running out of room before that happens so i may have to try to find something else.

with the neons and the lobster being blue and the neons and the rummynose having red on them i'd like to find something that's yellow or orange...maybe even green. but there aren't a lot of fish that i like. i really don't like guppies, mollies, platies...all the typical fish.

i dunno...rummynoses first for a 2nd school sometime next week and then we'll go from there i guess.

You could get some sunset or honey gouramis - they look pretty nice

Okay, I just have to ask. If you absolutely hate neon tetras why did you get them?

I agree that you should get some more rummynose. They are schooling fish.

I don't remember what tank size this is, but barbs need at least a 20 gallon, preferably more.
    8 tanks running now:
    1x 220 gallon, 2x55 gallon, 1x40 gallon long, 1x29 gallon, 1x20 gallon long, 1x5.5 gallon, 1x2 gallon
Gouramis, barbs, rasboras, plecos, corys, tetras, fancy guppies, swordtails, ottos, rainbow shark, upside-down catfish, snails, and Max and Sparkles the bettas.

honestly i don't know why i got them. i think i got them just to have something colorful and playful in the tank. either way...

it's a 55 gallon tank and i figure with 8 neons and 6 rummynose that they should take up somewhere around 14 gallons of the tank...the lobster should bring the total up to around 20 gallons so in reality i do suppose that i have the room for 5 tiger barbs taking up at full grown somewhere near 15 gallons taking my total to 35 gallons.

the sunset gourami's look similar to the yellow/blue rainbows that i was trying to put in the tank. they arrived to my door dead so that's why they aren't in there. but i must say that LiveAquarium.com did do well to refund me my money on the dead fish with just a phone call to an 800 number. props to them for good customer service.

Good luck with the blue crayfish. I read that they are not so good with fish.

everything is going well so far. a few of the fish have bumped into him and startled him but he hasn't gone after any of the fish so far. my thinking is that if i feed him often enough, i'm thinking 3 pellets twice a day, that he shouldn't get hungry enough to go after the fish.
