    Default Washer and Dryer reviews?

    0 Not allowed!
Our old mismatched set finally needs to go. The drier bit the dust on Saturday, and while the washer still washes just fine, it's rusted, so I get rust streaks on the clothes as I either put them in, or pull them out.

I don't need or want anything fancy (esp. with our corrosive water), but this time I would like a matched set (first time ever!), large capacity for bedding and a drier with a rack in it. Never had a rack before, but always wanted one - seems very handy for shoes, hats and sweaters.

I need a top load, easier for me.

We purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio set (5 cu ft. capacity/steam drier with rack) yesterday, but it won't be available for pick up until next week.

Now that I know what I have, I went to look it up...and while I don't seem to be able to find the exact model number, the reviews aren't all that good for any Cabrios.

I'm also spending a bit more on the set to get the features I want, so I don't want to end up with a lemon. But I can't tell if people are writing bad reviews because they didn't read the manual and aren't using the machines properly, or if the machines really are no good.

Anyone have this set? If they're truly not worth it, I'd rather cancel the order now before we go through the trouble of picking them up, hauling them out here, and installing them.

I have a pair of LG steam front loaders...honestly my reasoning for buying them was the fact they were a graphite steel color and looked nice. Fortunately they have very good ratings and do IMO work very well...my clothes and things actually feel cleaner than from the old machines. They have a ton of nifty settings and actually has one that steam cleans stuff to remove allergens...very handy for me. You can buy pedestals to put your machines on that raise them so they are easier to get stuff in and out of...its much easier than crawling down in one to get stuff out of it IMO.

Pedestals might help, but I don't think so- at least not enough to make a front load machine worth while for me. And the way our laundry room is configured, I don't think we can fit them in properly regardless. We have cupboards.

I'm glad you're happy with your set and that you enjoy the colour! After have lived with avacado green, harvest gold, and poweder blue, I'm sticking with white.

My other two main options are Kenmore (made by Whirlpool) and Maytag (more expensive with more features I don't want, and missing a couple I wold like).

I could also opt for economy - exactly what we have now - agitator washer...that would be fine too (and cheaper)...and just live without a couple of those features I'd like to try out...

Sorry Rue, we are still using 10 yr old Maytags. Had to replace a bearing a bit ago (was still washing, but it was noisier) otherwise they seem to be pretty solid.

Yeah...our old pair is ~ 15 years for the washer (roughly) and 17 years or so for the drier...

Technology has left us behind in the dust (so to speak) as far as appliances go...lol...

A fridge is on our list too...I'm just waiting for the current one to die entirely.

We have the Whirlpool Duet front loading washer/dryer. Bought it 7 years ago when we moved into a new house.

    Things we like about them:
    - Easy on the clothes due to front loading
    - Supposed to be water and energy efficient
    - Look nice.
    - They still work

Things we don't like about them:
    - Had to replace the knob on the washer
    - If you don't leave the door open when not in use (washer) it gets a mildew smell. Takes a while to get rid of and I hear that this is common with alot of front loaders and not just Whirlpool.
    - Both units have become very noisy, especially the dryer. Once it heats up and gets going, you can't even hear yourself think.

We've also replaced a dishwaser and microwave (over the range) with Whirlpool and have had nothing but disappointment. The dishwasher lasted 2 years before it needed repair and another 2 years before it started leaking and making horrible noises. Replaced with a Bosch.

The microwave/hood combo has it's own list of problems including light bulbs don't last more than 2 months, the exhaust fan does everything except exhaust, and now it's also making strange noises.

Whirlpool used to make a great product, but I will never buy another.
If you're finding bad reviews, I would do what you can to stop the order and look at something else. Good luck.

I buy stuff from Sears because parts are easier to get.
A front loader would nice but it would be too difficult getting into my tight basement.

Where I'm living the dryer is probably older than I am (and I'm 25). At my parents' place, we had to get a dryer from a repair/rebuild guy because mom actually set the dryer on fire while drying a load of laundry.
