converting AC50 to an 70 Flow rate
hey guys-
i got the ac 50 but i want the better power flow rate of the AC70- now teh pumps are teh same- can i just put the impeller and replace it and than have a new powerful filter?

Interesting! I didn't release the aquaclears all use the same motor but sure enough they do.
In theory what you want to do should work, but the thing I can't be certain of is whether or not the AC70 impeller will fit in the AC50 body. It may not.
Also, to be honest I have to question the effectiveness of doing so. You may increase your flow rate but you won't be increasing your amount of media. So, there'll be more water moving through your filter but the water will be spending less time in the presence of the media. It may have minimal or no effect on the actual filtration capability.300 gallon mega tank: build in progress

well my AC50 has two sponge filters that all as my mech. filter i have a filter thats is just a completely bio filter - i was just curiou but you have a good point

if you're just using it for mechanical filtration then it may work better than if you were trying to use it for biological. With mechanical filtration it's not important how long the water stays in contact with the media.
