I am about ready to add more fish to my 46gal community tank and my family is telling me they want a fish with yellow or orange in it. I'm not completely comfortable adding livebearers and wondered if I could get 1 male or male/female pair of gouramis based upon what I've read of others' experiences. I know I'll probably be advised to add to the fish I already have, but my other fish appear happy with their buddies already, get along very well and this next addition will probably be it for the time being.

I think a dwarf gourami would do all right. Just get one and watch for any nipping by your schooolers. He should do ok though.

Make sure there are no bettas they occasionally fight. You may be tempted to
get a pair of males but they will usually pick on each other. Good luck! Gourami's are great fish.

I would get one male and see how he does with the rest of your fish. Than if you wont more I would get 2 or 3 female. I have found that when I get a pair the male will not let up on the female.

I see you have several tanks of gouramis - you make them sound like guppies with the male/female ratio. I ended up getting 2 male guppies in the end because the hubby liked the color of them and they are doing fine.

    Thanks for responding!
