Thread: Too much light?

    Default Too much light?

Every since swapping our frag tank over to a glass tank, things have been starting to slowly lose color. Its not RTN or bleaching, they just aren't as bright as before and look dull. I know its not water quality because its tied into the display and things look great in the DT. Its not flow because the frag tank has almost 100x turnover. Here's what I think. Our old frag tank was acrylic with a painted background. The new one is glass with no background. Since a painted background greatly reduces par, I'm thinking changing over the a glass tank with no background greatly increased par and "light shocked" the coral. For now I've turned our adjustable ballast down from the 250 watt hqi setting down to 175 watts to see if that helps.

I was just curious if we were heading in the right direction, or could it be something else? Thank you for any input
