Is this a cycled tank? Fish will fade out if stressed, nipped at or not happy in their conditions. Check your water parmeters.

You mentioned you had an "Electric blue" DG (Dwarf Gourami). My understanding is that these guys generally don't get the big broad orange stripes that a standard DG has. They are a color variant that stays almost completely blue, granted it is an amazing shade of blue! I have had the same experience with my powder blue DG (the pic in my avatar).

I agree with everyone else that color is directly related to the health of the fish, so make sure his home is clean, spacious, and he has good quality food. Also that he's not being picked on by tankmates.

As far as it possibly being a female, here's a pic of my (most definitely) female standard dwarf gourami. She does have nice stripes but much more subtle coloring:

Do you have a pic of yours that you could show us?

I would wager it's a male, but the pic is a little dark. I think if you follow the previous advice these fine forum folks have given (be sure the water is clean, food is good, and the tank is peaceful) you'll see him color up in no time.

Also, keep in mind, sometimes they look a little brighter in the pictures because of the camera settings ;).

    Good luck! He's adorable!

I think maybe it's a juvenile but I'm not sure. I'm more of a cory person.

    Hat's off to gouramis!

Next time please don't post a reply to an old thread. The 'problem' it isn't all blue is because it is a standard dwarf gourami and not a neon blue dwarf gourami.

Maybe you could get color enhancing fish food.
