  1. Default Newts, Frogs, Turtle questions

Hi, I am new to non-fish species and have some questions.

    1) Can newts survive in 8in water given a platform? (I need the water that high for my filter to work)
    2) What are the most common aquatic frogs and would they be able to live in 8in given a platform?
    3) What is a good fish/snail/shrimp (or other animal) to keep a tank clean for slider turtle hatchlings?

    Thanks!

P.S. I don't currently own any of these species. Just considering a new addition.

  2. Default

Edit: From what I've read, the African Dwarf Frog is the most popular (aside from the Claw which is illegal in my state). So could a ADF survive in 8in of water given a platform?

  3. Default

    1. I had a newt in 12 inches of water it did fine I also had it with fish. But if you are going with no fish I would say get a larger species like the paddle tail(i had a fire bellied newt)
    2. Most common frogs are adf and clawed and both would do fine.
    3. Sorry do not have an aswer.

From personal experience I would suggest you get a fire bellied TOAD. They will require more area as far as the plateform goes but you can also use rocks that stick out of the water and gravel going gradualy to the surface on the side opposite the filter. They do also require live food(insects) but that bothers some people but it is real cool to watch. I have also cared for adfs and clawed frogs if you have any other q's.
