Necessities of a QT Tank
Hey everybody,
I need to get one lol just to be safe...
So I was wondering first off what size is ok, I was thinking of going with just a 10 gallon tank (since you can get them cheap)
So far my list consists of:
-Heater
-Air bubbler
-PVC pieces (just to provide hiding spots)
Anything else?
Cheers!55g Long --> After 18mo of doing well the tank crashed during moving. Most likely cause: Flatworm Die-off... won't start another until after moving... Likely not until late 2013

Provided you keep stock that will be comfy in a ten that's absolutley fine.
You need either an additonal HOB or {I use a} sponge filter [running on an established tank] to provide you with a portable established BB colony.
You can DIY a sponge filter easily or buy one cheap.
Sometimes I throw a fake plant [easily cleanable] or two in the QT if the fish requires some cover but isn't primarily a bottom level dweller.
Good luck.

That sounds about right. If the fish in qt is a sand sifter be sure to put sand in it too

Here's a good read on QT for Marine fish
http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/...step-step.html
They key that I've found is to have the water in the QT tank as close as possible to exact parameters as your main tank. I've actually used water from my main tank to add to the QT daily (mostly twice daily).
Also, if you use live rock in a QT tank, don't put it back in your reef tank. Meds can stay in the rock for quite a while and most meds are not reef safe
Hope this helpsLast edited by Cliff; 03-01-2011 at 02:38 AM.
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.
