Do you know what the problem is with trying something different? It's expensive if it doesn't work. I'm willing to try 2 pair of glasses - distance and reading...but what if that ends up being MORE annoying than bifocals???

Another 3 years of being irritated for a different reason?

I am resurrecting this thread. Just to see if anyone else has anything new to add.

It's been two years. I've just gone for another regular eye exam and ordered new glasses.

The previous result was 'okay'. But since then I've had issues with chronic dry eye...eye strain...

So now I'm trying again...I ordered more progressives for every day use (with a slightly larger lens to see if that helps), and 'office' reading glasses for working at the computer, reading, and playing music (reusing my current frames to save some money). If I understand it correctly, 'office' glasses are no-line bifocals that give you more flexibility.

I should get them in a week or two. I'll let you know if this venture is more successful. I'm tired of never seeing clearly unless I happen to have my glasses pushed onto a certain spot on my nose and am holding my head in 'just' the correct way...

And I haven't been able to read in bed comfortably for years...maybe these office glasses will let me cuddle with a pillow (or a cat/s) and read at the same time...

I couldn't go with a cheaper option. My eyes have too many issues...so I spent a fortune again, and insurance only covers 1/3 of it...

Picked up my new pair of progressives on Wed., still waiting to get the reading glasses.

I gotta say...the BIG lenses I have now make an obvious differences. I already feel a bit less eyestrain. I can see a lot more without constantly moving my head and finding the proper focal length.

The drawback is that they are a tad heavier and I find I need to push them up more often...but I might try replacing the nosepads with the 'sticky' ones and see if that helps at all...

    So...so far...so good...

I tried the progressives and just couldn't get used to them and gave up after a week. Although I just use/need reading glasses right now, I am wondering if I would need even these if I had stuck with them. Good luck Rue hope they work out.

Interesting reading people's experiences with these glasses.

I need glasses to drive at night now and over the past year, I've found I can't read small print - I can see my computer and book/magazine print, but nothing smaller than that.

My Dr said I'd need bifocals eventually, but I have no experience with whether I'd get a headache from a pair LOL.

Apparently it's easier to use lenses like that when they're bigger. What do you see as a difference between progressives & bifocals - I guess each person needs to see what's best for themselves?

Imma, I use these from the Dollar store and like you only need for reading. It's tough though going from 20/20 until I hit 45 or so and started to need them. I use over the counter 1.50 and as I said, for reading and iPhone, especially the iPhone! I believe the progressives that are very expensive strengthen your eye sight, but I could be wrong.

You won't know if the glasses work for you until you try them for a while...so if they don't, it's a lot of money down the drain.

Progressives have more than 2 fields of views within the lenses. Bifocals have two (near and far). Trifocals would have three.

You can have line-visibile (old school, but some people still prefer them) or no no-line trifocals and bifocals (most people have these - and you can't tell). Progressives have no lines.

My new progressives, with the big lenses...are really good. My new 'office' lenses (reading glasses...no-line bifocals) I am not liking very much. They make me dizzy when I look around. But I'll try a bit longer with them...could be I just haven't worn them enough yet to adjust to the different focal lengths...esp. when switching glasses for a short period of time...

I'll echo the point on finding a good optician. It can make a huge difference.

Now if only they'll put gorilla glass (the stuff they make smartphone screens with) on our glasses, we'd be set. It's obviously high clarity, and I bet they could get a high refractive index out of it with a little R&D.
