Holding my breath, GBR.
Back in early January I picked up a very young German Blue Ram. All the fish at the LFS were about the size of a quarter so picking a sex was difficult. The one I brought home to introduce to my tetra tank ended up being a female. Today I went back to the same store and brought a male home. I placed the male still in the bag), into the 29 gallon tank and right away the female was up near the bag having a close look. After 30 minutes she was still checking out the new addition. I was worried the two wouldn't get along but hoped that they would. As I released the new comer into the tank I added some flakes to distract the other fish.
Seems the female didn't go for the food. She closed in on the male and the two just stared at each other. The female went and hit the male gently against his side twice as the male just held his ground and took it. Since then the two have been swimming side by each for the last hour as he seems to be checking out the tank and she seems to be checking him out.
I was worried they wouldn't get along and I'd have to put the male into my back up tank but so far so good.
It would have been easier if I could have picked a pair back in the store instead of the way it went. I hope all goes well over the next few days.Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..

When a territorial fish get's a place all to itself, it can be hard opening the doors to others. Be aware, fights might be going down soon.
It's generally better to add territorial fish at the same time :)98L Community
