  1. Default Unidentified fish -Variatus Platy or something else?

Hey everyone, I have a mystery fish! (unidentified species) or possibly a new or hybrid species??

-this was bought from the LFS out a feeder fish tank that had assorted livebearers (Platies / Guppies / Mollies etc.)

But I just can't figure out what type of fish this particular one is -the color is much like a 'Variatus Platy' (last photo) but the shape is all wrong for a Platy? It seems a lot longer and it's head is sort of 'rounded' unlike any platy I've seen?

Could it be a severely deformed, underweight, Variatus Platy? (which is what I first assumed?) Or could it be something else? -Could it be from the Poecilia family??

It's almost the same shape as 'Fundulus heteroclitus' but has a longer tail and is a different color.

Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

    Thank you, Casey.

Id go with deformed. It almost looks like a danio i had once where he had a humpback that suddenly appeared when his mate died and then he swam wierd for the last year of his life because his spine like, twisted. but i could be wrong. Ive never seen a fish this shape naturally.

I would say its suffering from a parasitic infection which causes the classic sunken stomach

    +1

That fish doesn't appear to have the right body shape because its belly is shrinking upward. Treat it for parasites, and if it recovers, I'll wager it will fill out and look more like it should.

I agree it looks thin, but the head is wrong for a molly. Maybe a rosy red minnow/molly or guppy? The head looks "minnowy" to me.
I hate hearing people say "it's only a $3/$5/$1 fish/shrimp, so it's ok if it dies, I can just get another." It's still an animal! All animals should be treated like they're worth $10,000.

Please click an egg so they'll grow.
