    Some catching up, first:

Sunday, Mothers Day, we took MIL out to dinner. It rained, naturally! Nearly all day long. The manager gave all of us older gals a long-stemmed carnation. When we returned to MILs house, I gave her mine.

Yesterday, Monday, I struggled most of the day with this dang computer! The phones went out so I couldn't dial up. Every time I tried, I got the busy signal and the "line is busy" message. When it finally worked, it was slower than a seven-year itch.

Today was a gorgeous day, for a change. I've spent a good part of it out in the garden digging weeds, spreading compost, realigning the rocks in the border that get skewed every year due to the soil shifting from frost heave. I also pounded in some more edging up against the rock border to help keep the rocks in place. Even with that, the edging itself heaves in winter, though it is supposed to be resistant to that. But at least the rocks don't get kicked out of place by deer and other garden visitors when they're against a solid wall of edging.

I have daffodils blooming, now -- late, I know, but we're always late up here.

My sister sent me some red rocket-tall snapdragons. I'll plant them out after Memorial Day, as there is usually one more hard freeze between Mothers Day and Memorial Day. Then after that, it usually doesn't freeze anymore at night. Although, this year, who knows? It has been known to snow in June around here!

Which reminds me, I need to e-mail her to let her know I got them.

I'm noticing my perennials putting on more new growth -- catmint, veronica, dill plant, columbine, forget-me-nots, shasta daisies, and most of the groundcovers. Also, Oriental Poppies returning and those pesty California Poppies are coming up everywhere. I like a few of them around, but if I don't keep them pulled out, they'll take over.

Foxglove and Alliums also coming back, and some new plants are coming up from bulbs I planted last year -- Leucojum. Never tried that before, but they say it's deer resistant. Thus far, they haven't messed with it.

Bearded Irises springing up new leaves as is the Maltese Cross. And the Monarda is coming back, as well.

I'm hoping the deer will get discouraged from not finding what they like in my garden anymore, and stop coming into my flowerbeds. If they find better pickings elsewhere, that would be the best deer deterrant of all. Most of what I'll have this year they don't like. So to those pesky and destructive critters -- "Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah!"

    That about covers it.

Did our census on-line...had the short-form!

The 16-year old worked the Elton John concert last night, so hubby, I and the mini-Dachshund drove him to work for 6:15. Then we went for a long walk along the river. I wore new footwear and have major blisters... . Today I'm hobbling around trying to find a comfortable walking angle.

Then we went to Canadian Tire to kill time, came home with some solar lights and a hose holder thingy. I got a raincheck for a sale priced METAL bistro table and 2 chairs (just need a cheap set...Celeste ate the wooden one we had a couple of years ago)...then asked if the other store had any in stock...and yes...they have 10! I think I'll go pick up a set today vs. waiting 2-3 weeks for the other store to get more in.

Then, around 9, we got a coffee and sat and waited. Around 10 p.m. we drove to the venue and waited...watched all the stretch limos leave, watched all the people leave and waited some more. He was done at 11:30 p.m.

He'd better appreciate all this when he gets older. Right now he's treating us like he's doing us a favour by getting us out of the house.

Finally got out of the house today... Got the car from mom so I could go get my groceries. Of course, the weather was horrible... Pouring rain and blowing a gale. Not a nice day unless you happen to be a mallard.

Another couple came to look at the house today, which meant I spent my evening on a cleaning spree with mom. My back is killing me and my left shoulder is warning me that if I lift one more heavy item it's going to pop. Turns out the people who came to look have a 5- gallon saltwater tank, so we talked fish for a bit after they looked into my room and saw my betta swarm.

The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of the act

Went to town and picked up the bistro set. Good thing I had the raincheck, or they were going to charge me full price. Got a few groceries.

Picked up the new Lee Child novel (Worth Dying For). Not sure why I like Lee Child, not my normal quick fiction pick, but I do!

Also bought, and read, the Paleo Diet book - I'm not into fad diets...just calorie counting...but what I'm eating now is pretty much what the Paleo Diet is...since I've cut back on carbs so much...

Picked up my son from track, and also drove a classmate home...didn't know I had to do either...so nice of him to give me notice...

Vacuumed, played with dogs, am entertaining the parrots...and some other odds and ends. A typical 'easy' home day...

Spent nearly half the day transferring everything in my 20-gallon to new digs, since the tank sprang a leak. It's not the best arrangement in the world, but it's the best I can do in such a short amount of time, with money as tight as it is. Hopefully, my fish are healthy enough and tough enough to endure it for a few days. They have everything they're familiar with, just not the hob, although its media is in the bucket with them with two airstones vigorously flowing water through it. A screen over the top and fastened down on the sides, with just enough loose room to slip in some food. Nice news -- the LFS I bought the tank from is going to give me a replacement, which I sincerely hope won't also leak!

One more point for seamless acrylic ... I think it's time to begin seriously looking into that.

It was a glorious gardeners day, so after I got the fish squared away, I worked outdoors for several hours. It's amazing that while some of the perennials struggle to come back, the weeds have no problem, at all!

It got into the 70s, today. Very nice!

Got the hummingbird feeder up with some fresh sugar-water in it. Hummers already visiting it.

    More later ...

Supposed to be working on a database for the Flavor library and some reports for the sales people. Pretty much looking out the window and playing on the computer though.

    First day of summer!

Anyway, washed and waxed the car. Probably pictures later around sunset time with it. Gym in a little, visiting some old friends, doing my 8 loads of laundry (not exaggerating lol) and just relaxing.

    Gotta love summer
