So glad he is much improved. The abdominal swelling sounded to me like perhaps internal worms or perhaps he had a blockage of some kind. But sounds to me as Dr Mom took matters in hand and used her healing powers.

Bad cases of Hexamita can cause severe abdominal swelling and secondary infections in the gut due to the Hexamita protazoa burrowing into the intestinal tract. The eyes of the fish will also look somewhat clouded, and the fish will often shed mucus which does the sunburn peel look. They also either stop eating or will show interest in food and not eat or take food and spit it out.
