Thread: Tank Logs?

  1. Default Tank Logs?

I was thinking about starting one to help document when and what I change during tank maintenance, i.e. dates, changed media, etc. I was wondering if anyone else does one to help keep things under control.
55g: Planted Tank: Firemouth, Blue Acara, Rainbow Cichlid, 15 Bloodfin Tetras, and 8 Panda Cories

45g Planted Tank: 2 Koi Angelfish, 19 Rummy Nose Tetras, and 6 Green Cories

20g Planted Tank: 8 Harlequin Rasboras, 4 Peppered Cories, and 8 Amano Shrimp

i have a small notebook i keep by my bed to let me know. pretty much usless to anyone but me because of the way its written. without many spaces and in very short hand
    "1/20/11 55 wc30g a0 i0 n20 2cferts no filter"
    "1/20/11 75wc36g a0 i0 n35 ocferts yes filter"
    "1/24/11 55 wc0 1cferts no filter"

i dont think its necessary but its nice to be able to know what i did when in case something weird happens with the tanks

Good idea. If you logged your chemical tests in excel, you could graph them.

I keep track of my tests, dosing of ferts and water changes. I dont track filter media or gravel vacs but I do take care to document routine things.
    FW: 1 45gal, 1 40gal, 3 10gal, 3 30gal all community tanks of different species
    Sw: 1 55gal, 1 30gal show, 1 29gal show, 1 20gal and 2 10's

I second this - I am keeping track of all my water parameters in one big Excel spreadsheet. All other observations and actions go in a "notes" section in the last column. This was especially helpful, while I was cycling a new tank. The graphs made it all easy to look at.
