Default 2 fish have ick - help!

I am new at this - I came home from work today to find my red platy and 1 of my black skirts have ick - I do not have a quarantine tank. I have a 46 gallon fw tank completely cycled and a few live plants. Last night my parameters are fine - ammonia 0, nitrites 0 and nitrates are 5.0. Are there immediate things I can do besides run out and get medication - I see raising the tank temp is recommended - mine is about 76-77 degrees and how about adding salt? If I can't do anything else except raise the water temp until tomorrow evening, will the fish be ok?

Nitrates are High IMO. What you can do is raise your tank water up to about eighty degrees. Watch meds becasue some kill plants and BB in the filters. When medicating remove the carbon or it will filter out the meds. How many fish are in the tank. Keep water really clean, and Let it run its course. Usually like 3 days until you will see a decrease in ick activity.

my two favorites in my life.

I Have never used meds for ick, i just do it the simple way by turning up the heater, my tank is set at 78 and i turned it up to around 85 for half a week and then gradually lowered it. If you decide to go that way dont turn off the heater until you are positive you dont see any signs of it on your fish.

Ok - I did a large water change (about 50%) tonight and am now testing the nitrates. I'm confused about the response I got that nitrates at 5.0ppm are too high - I thought as long as they stay below 20ppm I'm ok? I also raised my water temp - it is now about 82. I have 3 danios in the tank - guess I should just keep an eye on them? If my nitrates are too high, is there any other good way to lower them besides doing daily water changes?
