I have a male and female JD that are in a 55 gal tank. They don't get along anymore

: so I can only keep one. I was wondering which would be best to keep? And can I keep any other kind of cichlid with whichever one I do keep?

Males are more territorial,female are aggresive also ,but in my opinion,(just a guess really)keep the girl.Put a divider in the tank and try to introduce another medium cichlid.

Medium as in a male convict or a female green terrier or a firemouth? What would be a good medium sized cichlid?

I'd probably keep the nicer looking JD and give them the whole 55g to themselves.

Id probably eep the male as they usually end up more colorful than females, you could try a large male convict...no guarantees it will work. Cons are tough fish and an adult male can take care of itself against fish many times its size, just make sure you having hiding places within the tank.
