Pied gar?

The bass pro shops in rossford,ohio has many nice gar,including a large longnose,but I believe that one of the shortnose gar looks to have a white marbling effect starting from it's belly to the lateral line.

Could've been a spotted gar... The overall shape of spotted are nearly identical to shortnose, but spotted gar have more markings and shortnose lack the dark pigmentation and mottled on their snout.

You might be right ,although I have a spotty in my aquarium now and it does not resemble this thing.It was very unusual.You know I am going to have to take a picture of this fish and post it .If I can figure out how to post pics.

Most species of Gar have an incredibly variable pattern. Without pics, we are only speculating. I have seen plenty of shortnose that have had more pattern than some florida/spotteds that I have seen. Every fish is different. Could you get pics of this fish?

I am going saturday,the live feeds are at 12:30 in the afternoon.That longnose smashes down a dozen or more four to five inch bluegill a feed.The large muskie just is not fast enough to get it's share.

That's not piebald...That's a typical Longnose Gar. Like I said before, Gars can have a huge variation in pattern and color. That actually looks very similar to my Longnose. I'll get some pics when I get a chance.
