The last pictures are of what it looks like right now. Pretty darn bare.

Am thinking some moss of some sort ... something.

Its funny because I was looking at back pictures of what my tanks used to look like. So different from now!

It looks great, definitely one of the best looking 5gal hex's ive seen

I love how you called it a "thing" lol

If the "hail mary" crypts would take off and bush up, I could get some frogbit or other floater for the top and then we'd be good, I think. Maybe. Maybe some subwassertang.

But yeah, I call it "the hex thing" because I have, over time, gotten to loathe it. The footprint doesn't allow for a whole lot, as it is taller than wide. 'Scaping it is a pain in the ass. BUT! The boyfriend gave it to me for Christmas, so I keep it.

I didn't like mine like that because it was a PITA to keep clean. I just didn't like the filter I guess.

How did you modify it for an AC?

Cocktail jumped out one day and took a walk ... and I later found him in his "I'm an Olympic Jumper!" pose. He didn't survive it, sadly.

As for the modification, I took the black top rim off the tank and then used a dremel tool to cut out the back half on the inside. Plopped the rim back on, and it still held both hood/lid things.

I should take a pic, soon to show it. :)

Please do! Because I would be interested on doing that to mine. I only had problems with the filter that is on the hex.

I liked the footprint of it because it didnt take up much space- but aquascaping was a pain.

Apologies for not taking the whole thing completely apart. And the dust on the lid.

Anywho, you take the top rim off completely. Then you take a dremel tool to excise the back bit that holds in the filter compartment.

This is what it looks like when done.

You have to use the dremel with a cutting wheel on it and not snips or anything .. because the plastic is so hard.

That is an awesome idea and I would have never thought to do it!
