Blue died yesterday evening. He had all the symptoms of constipation\swim bladder disease except for a swollen abdomen. He was laying on his belly on the gravel and had difficulties swimming.. Guess I should have tried an epson salts bath, but he went to quickly.

Blue came to me from Jenn and she had been feeding him frozen blood worms. I started him on NLS Small Fish Formula and FD blood worms. I think the change in diet was too fast. Blue's system couldn't handle the rapid change in diet.

Again, his abdomen wasn't swollen, so that kind of threw me off or I would have does the bath sooner.

I may have had to much current in the tank. Blue seemed to enjoy swimming in the current from the 2 AC filters, but it may have also stressed him out. Hind sight says, I probably should have removed the AC30 and left the AC20.

Anyway, the 20 gallon long is back to an all cherry barb tank. They are doing fine.

    Sorry I lost him Jenn.

I wish I had some clue to offer you on this end, but alas I dont. I could understand him killing over had any of the equipment from the 150G or QT tanks been used on the bettas tank given the sorry state of that wild Oscar. Alas I clean the betta tanks by hand and the tank isnt in the same room. The move could have just been too much for him, it happens sometimes. The fish has been in more US states than I have so that alone is a feat. Could have just been one of those random things as well...

Thanks Cassie, Rue and Jenn for your thoughts.

I added 4 young cherry barbs to the 20 gallon long. They are only about 1/2" long, but are doing very well. They have no problem gobbling done the NLS Small Fish Formula pellets. I do need to pick up some veggie\spirulina flake for them at some point.

So the 20L is now a cherry barb palace. They storm the glass at feeding time in the morning and are always active throughout the day. Such happy, brightly colored fish. The 4 young ones are male and haven't developed their adult coloring yet. But they've brightened up already since I brought them home.

So I have 8 males, 4 of which are juvis, 4 adult, and 5 females for a total of 13 cherry barbs. I'll add a couple more young females at some point in the near future, but that's it. The 20 gallon long is fully stocked.

Cherry barbs range all over the tank including pecking at the bottom for food so I really don't need any bottom dwellers.

Lost a big female cherry barb this morning. I noticed she hadn't been eating for the last 4 days and hanging out in a corner not swimming around much. She was fat. No other cherries at this time have any symptoms. I'll keep a close eye on them.

It's never a good thing when a fish stops eating. My experience tells me that it's a sign of trouble to come.

There was\is no stringy white poo. No real signs of interal parasites or constipation. She just stopped eating and died.

Water parameters are 0 ammonia, nitrite, 10 ppm nitrates. I'm starting to get a bit frustrated with the 20 gallon long. Seems every few weeks I loose a fish.

I'm sorry to hear the Taurus. Was the tank re-sealed or anything? My brother had a tank where he kept losing fish slowly, turns out we think it was resealed with the wrong silicone before he bought it. He re-sealed it with the proper stuff and it's been fine since, no deaths.
