Well I would suggest a German Shepard or a Rotweiler. The first is much easier to train but the other might give you some of thet bully feeling you want without beeing to bad to train.

German shepards also seems to do well with training at a lot younger age than many other dogs do giving the a big head start. German shepards also do a great job teaching what you thought it to other dogs,

Might be too big for you however.
Do as I say. Not as I do.

A customer of mine back when I worked full time brought in her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Those dogs knocks my socks off!

They are a bit smaller but not what I would call dainty sized. But no merle (tri-color though!)

Yes. If, and it's still a big if, it happens it wouldn't be for a while. Having 5 dogs is completely out of the question.

William: I really don't want to deal with shepard hair - there never seems to be an end to it...and while I like Rotties...I don't like them enough. Not to mention they seem to have so many health issues...even the ones from better breeders.

    Trillianne...Cavaliers are cuties alright!

...lol...after all this, we'll likely end up with an Old English Sheepdog or something like...

Seriously though...so many breeds...and yet not one that quite fills the bill...go figure!

I was also looking for Standard Smooth Dachshunds. Not the easiest to train either...and I remember the fairly large ones from my past (~30 lbs)...but they seem to have gone the way of the dinosaurs for some reason...in favour of the minis. Not sure why though...

If I was going to get something hairy, I'd look at the Clumber Spaniels...but they really don't come close at all to my 'must-have' list...

If your going down that route what about a Border collie, i had them my whole life growing up excellent intelligent dogs or go with a springer spaniel. again very very intelligent dogs.
    16 tanks and counting

The more i look at your tank the more i want your tank in my tank!

    Thanks Chris...beautiful dogs...both breeds...but

...again, both have too much hair and are a bit too active for our household. That's why I've ruled out German Short-haired Pointers... hyper!

Although we're waffling between 'should we?' and if we do what type of dog - we're both leaning towards the B&T Coonhound. I found a breeder and if I want we can go on a waiting list. She won't have a litter until next year now...and there still might not be a puppy for us even so - we're certainly not rushing into a quick purchase.

I would like to know how drooly they are though...I know I couldn't handle a Newfie, and it's funny that our AmBull has a drier mouth than our Curly-coat. I also know the Bloodhounds are too drooly for me, but the B&T descriptions say BOTH 'dry mouthed' and 'drooling may be a problem'...so I'm guessing they can go either way depending on the individual? Or was the 'dry mouth' reference relative to a Bloodhound? So confusing...
