Bubbles/Foam in new tank?
I just got my new Aqua Culture 29 gallon aquarium set up yesterday and have been letting it cycle, but a large amount of bubbles have begun to accumulate on the water surface. I've found that over half of these bubbles burst and don't re accumulate when I open the feeding door and leave it that way, however I would prefer not to.
The tank has:
Aqua-tech 20-40 Power filter
Heater
Full light hood
Various artificial plants
Sunken ship decor
An air stone
And no fish
Does anyone have any ideas? I let the tank run all day yesterday and overnight with the light off and there is still a rather large amount of bubbles on the surface, larger ones closer to the air stone side, and more of a foam on the filter side. I'm thinking the water level is either too high or low.

The lines in the photo are from the bubbles that typically sit when you fill up the tank via bucket. ^_^;

What kind of dechlorinator you using? Some have slime coating and will bubble a bit for awhile but nothing to worry about. See if the bubbles go away by unconnecting the air supply to that ship. That seems to have a pretty major stream of bubbles coming for it.

When you say your "Letting it cycle" are you adding Ammonia to the tank?
otherwise a tank sat with nothing in it is not cycling its just a tank filled with water.
As lady says if your using a de-chlorinator like Stress zyme you have added slime coat enhancers for the fish and that will foam and bubble.
Also if you look in Lady hobbs Signature you will find an excellent "Fishless Cycle" sticky to cycle that tank

I run off well water but used AquaSafe conditioner.... Going to try turning off the ship air pump for a while and see if that helps!
Thanks for the cycling link, I understand the process better now. :D

Unfortunately I think the only store that sells ammonia in the area is the one I work at, and that is lemon scented.... I'm guessing the additives for that would be bad for the tank?

Yup that would be bad.
here is the link to fish in cycle, its hard on the fish so you have to be fairly strict with the water changes, and can only add fish slowly over the course of a couple of months

you could always try using flake food.
unless you know someone who has an established tank, get them to seed some media for you, i.e put a filter in their tank so you can start to cultivate some bacteria for you
Anyways have another read of the other stuff and decide for yourself16 tanks and counting

Also, any suggestions on where to and what kind of aquarium test kit to get cheaply? I've been looking around for awhile but most of them seem to be missing the Nitrate tests.

Most if not All on this site use the API master test kit, (liquid not strips)
it will cost between $30 and $45 but it is well worth the price it will last for around 200+ tests.

About half an hour from Griffin, GA. No Petsmart nearby or Petco, there is one small shop in town but I'm not sure if they carry fish supplies.
