  1. Default New Adopties - Red Fronted Amazons

Some pics of my two latest adopties.
They are in rather poor conditions. They are way too thin and small, their plumage is not in very good condition and they are very afraid. Increasingly so as they day progresses which I think is due to the previous owners drinking problem. They expect people to be nice during the morning but not later in the day. They do however still want to eat and eat very well so I expect them to recover rather quickly. They were given to me by the owner after I had told him that he needed to do something about their condition. They also seem to overcome their fears and bound rapidly

They are very nice looking birds. Good luck with their recovery.

Oh Dear! They are a bit rough looking...but otherwise they seem alert. I hope they come around quickly.

You might want to move that string in the background, so they can't get it wrapped around a leg...

Actually that string is their favorite toy. They are with us all day so we spot if they get into troubls.

The good thing is that the wings will grow back.

My CAG actually managed to clip herself. She plucked all the secondary feathers between the primaries so there's huge holes. She can still flap a couple of feet...but that's it.

BTW if you think they look bad now you should have seen them 3 days ago. they spent all first day eating. the second pruning themselves. Atleast they don´t have white dunn sticking out everwhere now.

I will post new pictures in a few weeks.

That is like a fairytale story for that poor birds, they finally arrived at the castle! I grew up with birds and see them as family members. Because of all the cats I own, I never got birds myself. Keep us posted with their recovery.

    Poor babies!

Good food, baths, and just being able to relax (vs. wondering when the alcoholic will start up) will do wonders!

I love that Amazon 'sheen' too...I wonder if it shows up differently under UV light? My GC just shimmers...and I'm wondering if it doesn't look differently to birds. I can't remember if birds can see a little into the UV range...

I should go look it up...
