Whats the best way to clean that aquariumplants substrate? I just switched my 30 gal over to it. Do you have to clean it like sand or vacuum it deep like large gravel?

you know, I haven't figured that out yet! It's too light to really dig into like you would gravel... if you get any in the siphon tube it just circulates around for a while, neither sinking nor getting sucked out.

Exciting day today as I moved the new fish from quarantine to the main tank.

I got two new glofish (one red, one yellow - so I now have two of each color), and two golden zebra danios. Golden danios are a natural color varient of the zebra danios. At least, natural in the sense that they haven't been genetically modified. I don't know if they occur in nature, or if they're the result of traditional selective breeding. I haven't been able to find out much about them, most sites just mention their existence. One did describe them as "semi-albino", whatever that means.

I know the schooling will only last until the school gets comfortable with its new members, but until then it's a very entertaining multicolored group.

I got one more albino cory, to bring that school up to 6 strong. Is this the new one? Who knows! They all look the same except for the oldest that came over from the 29g. That one's bigger and has worn barbels.

I also added three more bronze corys, so I have five of them now as well. In theory the albinos and the bronzes are the same species, but the two groups seem to keep to themselves a bit more than they do as a mix.

Here's a new one in front with the one I got last month behind.

Here are the three new ones. They're all pretty good size already compared to most of the new corys I've gotten.

Managed to catch the pleco on the glass and noticed some pink color inside his mouth. Hopefully it's just some minor irritation or something. I'll keep an eye on it as best I can, which is easier said than done since he isn't on the glass like this all that often.

Whatever it is, it's certainly not stopping him from eating (sinking pellet under his mouth) or pooping (zucchini-colored trail behind him). Also, the green spot algae is getting worse. I may have to throw in the towel and invest in an acrylic-safe algae scraper. Ultimately I've got to figure out what's causing it too, if it doesn't go away on its own soon enough.

You're amassing quite the "herd" of cory's, must be a fun sight at feeding time. I've decided to get a school of schwartz cory's for my 30, just need to convince my lfs to get some for me. Btw, I emailed aquarium plants.com about that substrate, this is what they recommended; "vacuum lightly with your normal maintenance of the tank and then a little more extensively every few months"

Is that just a common bristolnose? I love the color when they mature!

I'll have to measure next time he's on the glass, I think about 3 inches though. He was about 1.5" when I got him.

I think so. I mean, there's dozens of species of bristlenoses, if not more. Even the "common" ones could be any number of species, I believe. With that said, he's not anything unusual that I know of.
